What is the troop committee, what is their role in the troop, what are the positions in the committee, who are the members, and what do they do?  A lot of questions, I know.  Hopefully I'll answer some of them for you so you will gain a better understanding of how the troop runs, and how vital the troop committee is.

The troop committee helps enrich the lives of the boys in the troop and make a difference in the kind of men they become.  The troop committee is a part of the organization of scouting.  It is the troop's board of directors.  All committee members serve for a period of one year.  The committee does the following:

  • Ensures that quality adult leadership is recruited and trained.
  • Provides adequate meeting facilities.
  • Advises the scoutmaster on policies relating to Boy Scouting and the chartered organization.
  • Supports leaders in carrying out the program.
  • Is responsible for finances, adequate funds, and disbursements in line with the approved budget plan.
  • Obtains, maintains, and properly cares for troop property.
  • Ensures the troop has an outdoor program (a minimum of 10 days and nights per year).
  • Serves on boards of review and courts of honor.
  • Supports the Scoutmaster in working with individual boys and problems that may affect the overall troop program.
  • Provides for the special needs and assistance some boys may require.
  • Helps with the Friends of Scouting campaign.
  • Assists the Scoutmaster with handling boy behavioral problems.

There are many committee positions within the troop, and we are always looking for  parents who volunteer their time to serve in these positions.  Without a strong committee, the troop would not be as successful as it is.  Here is a look at the Troop 149 committee, the positions, duties, and people who fill these positions.

We are always looking for new members who can help in any way they can, and serving on the committee is a great way to get involved in the Troop.  If you are interested in serving on the Troop 149 committee, just contact the Scoutmaster at: troop149falcon@comcast.net
